Short & Sweet

Kommern has a charming history town centre and is surrounded by nature.

It features a lovely park and an outdoor museum where you can see traditional artisans at work and even try your hand at their trades.

If you need more action, you can take the summer bobsled run. And your stomach can look forward to some delicious Rhenish food.

The Town and the Region

Kommern has around 4,000 inhabitants and is located in the northwest of the Eifel region in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is surrounded the idyllic landscape of the Voreifel area with its many small lakes and picturesque spots. The best times to visit are in spring and summer, when nature is at its peak. Unfortunately, the Eifel region was one of the areas hit hardest by the catastrophic flooding of July 2021, and clean-up operations will take some time. So it’s best to get current information before planning your trip.

Tips on Getting There

Kommern’s numerous historic timber, brick and mortar houses give the town its charm. Many of them are over 500 years old. The streets of the town centre are narrow and contain a lot of twists and turns. Amongst them you will find a castle, an imposing Catholic cathedral and lots of small business and cafés.
